Cyclic Differential Equations and Period Three Solutions of Differential-Delay Equations

where g: C?’ --) )? is a given function, Ni are integers and a is a real parameter. Such equations have been considered in several papers, for instance [ 2, 5, 6). It has become apparent that it is important to be able to show that (0.1) has no nontrivial periodic solutions of certain periods. For example, the global Hopf bifurcation theorem, as developed by Alexander and Yorke for ordinary dif...

Oscillatory Solutions for Certain Delay-differential Equations

The existence of oscillatory solutions for a certain class of scalar first order delay-differential equations is proved. An application to a delay logistic equation arising in certain models for population variation of a single specie in a constant environment with limited resources for growth is considered. It is known (cf. [1, 2]) that all solutions of the delay logistic equations (1) N'(t) =...

Periodicity in a System of Differential Equations with Finite Delay

The existence and uniqueness of a periodic solution of the system of differential equations d dt x(t) = A(t)x(t − ) are proved. In particular the Krasnoselskii’s fixed point theorem and the contraction mapping principle are used in the analysis. In addition, the notion of fundamental matrix solution coupled with Floquet theory is also employed.

Periodic delay differential equations with commensurate period and delay: detecting small solutions numerically

We consider the detection of small (super-exponentially decaying) solutions to scalar linear delay differential equations of the form x′(t) = b(t)x(t − d) with b(t + p) = b(t), (1) where p and d are not equal but are commensurate. We adapt our numerical approach, used with (1) when p = 1, d = 1 in [5], to this more general case. We extend our ideas to higher dimensional systems and discuss the ...
